My woodcut illustration was originally going to be a full scene shaded with woodcuts, but what I eventually turned up with didn't lend itself well to the woodcut style. I went through some studies for it, but in the end I went for a normal three object composition to display it. The skull was a holdover from the original concept while the knife and bottle were intended to carry the "pirate" look the boy had. It didn't need color, but I personally decided to give it a loose color appearance anyway. This piece won me the Graphic Design Certificate of Excellence at the Cuyamaca Student Art Show in 2017.
